Street dance has evolved outside of the dance studio. It evolved in any open space, such as streets, school playgrounds, nightclub / raves and dance / block (street) parties. Street dance continues to evolve, it is a very interactive and vigorous style of dancing. ![]() Street dancers improvise a lot and encourage interaction with spectators and other dancers. It is an energetic style of dance with many dancers using body popping and locking and breakdance within routines. Hip-hop is a dance style, that evolved from the hip-hop culture and hip-hop music. Hip-hop includes various moves such as breaking, popping, locking and krumping, and even house dance. Improvisation and personal interpretation are essential to hip-hop dancing. Ballroom dancing is enjoyed socially and competitively around the world. It is an elegant and dramatic partner dance. Ballroom dancing has recently gained further popularity as a result of shows such as Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing With The Stars. ![]() There are five main dances: the Modern Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, and Quickstep. Rock'n'Roll is a very athletic, competitive form of dance that originated from Lindy Hop. Unlike Lindy hop, it is a choreographed dance. This is normally a very fast and physically demanding dance. | Freestyle dancing can apply to numerous dance types and can be defined as any style of dance where the moves are not predetermined or choreographed. Freestyle dancing is literally thinking on your feet. ![]() Freestyle dancers are encouraged to create new moves and develop a personal style. It is a style of dance that allows expression of personal creativity and individuality. Contemporary / Slow : Contemporary dance emerged in the 1950s as the dance form that is combining the modern dance elements and the classical ballet elements. Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation. Contemporary dancers focus on floorwork, using gravity to pull them down to the floor. Latin dance is a fast-paced, often sensual, partner dance characterized by hip movements. However, hip movements are not intentional in any of the Latin dances. The hip motion is a natural consequence of changing weight from one foot to the other. ![]() There are five main Latin dances: the Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble and Jive. |
